Small Fry Timetable 2011
Sunday 4/17
- All teams must be checked in to the All Star Sport by 5:00 pm
- Team credentials checked from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (All Star Back Parking Lot)
- 6:00 pm Coaches meeting (Mandatory) at All Star back parking lot
Monday 4/18
- Pairings begin at 9:00 am. Have your team in line at 8:30 am.
- Practice times from 10 am until 12 pm. Assignments at check in.
- 12:00 pm all courts will be cleared.
- 1:00 pm International seeded teams begin play.
- 2:30 pm Consolation seeded teams begin play.
- 4:00 pm Ozzie Mazzetta Challenge round of games begin.
- Free throw and 3-point contest at halftime of all opening games.
Tuesday 4/19
- First round of Tournament games begin 9:00 am
Wednesday 4/20
- Second round of Tournament games begin at 9:00 am
Thursday 4/21
- Executive Committee & Coaches Meeting 9:00 am sharp (All Star Sport)
- Final Round of games. (1st game at 11:00 am; Finals are at 2:00 pm)

Friday 4/22
- Teams Depart
All teams that arrive Sat. 4/16 or Sun. 4/17 will be able to check-in before 2:00pm on Sun. 4/17. Any other teams will have to check-in Monday 4/18 before pairings at the complex gate. Please be sure to have uniforms with you for the Challenge round of games. Coaches meeting will begin at 6:00 pm sharp on Sunday.

2011 International Tournament notes |
Ozzie Mazzetta Challenge Round: Small Fry changed its format in 2006, adding a Monday Challenge round to qualify the final eight teams for the International field. Therefore, 24 teams now travel to Orlando with an opportunity to win the International crown.
The 2011 International field includes:
- Eight former International champions: Bucaplaa, PR; Chicago Heights, IL; Highwood Heat, IL; Homewood, IL; Torrimar, PR; Arecibo, PR; Ponce, PR and Newark, NJ.
- Teams from Puerto Rico and three different states: New Jersey, Illinois and Wisconsin.
- A Consolation Tournament and Rookie Tournament in 2011 expands the overall field of teams in Orlando to 35.
- Thirteen returnees from 2010 Final 16: Bucaplaa, Chicago Heights, Homewood, Marquette Best, Bayamon ABB, Highwood, Newark, Ponce Constancia, Glenbrook, Torrimar, Chi-Town NBN, Guayama, Foster Pirates.
- Four first-time qualifiers: Arecibo B, Bucaplaa B, Ford Heights, Molina Basketbal.
- All of last year’s Final Four: Ponce Constancia, Marquette Best, Bucaplaa A and Foster Pirates.
- Last year's Ponce title-game win over Bucaplaa halted a six-peat and the most impressive title string in history. On two other occasions, teams have won at least three straight crowns, including Liga Interclub of San Juan (1976-79) and the Highwood Heat (1997-99). After winning seven titles from 1991-2000, the Midwest has been shut out the last 10 years.
- Ponce’s championship last year makes it four teams from Puerto Rico to claim multiple titles, including Liga Interclub (five), Fraigcomar (two), Ponce (three) and Bucaplaa (1986, 2004-2009).
- Prior to the Highwood Heat’s three-peat in 1997-99, six different states/territories had won International crowns in six years. Starting with 1992 in New Orleans, the title was won by New Jersey (Newark, 1992), Puerto Rico (Fraigcomar, 1993), Wisconsin (Racine, 1994), Indiana (Gary, 1995), Chicago (Runners, 1996) and Illinois (Highwood, 1997).
- Nineteen different teams have won International tournaments, as Bucaplaa became the 11th multiple winner in 2004. Other multiple winners include Racine (1972, 1981, 1987, 1994); Highwood (1997-99), the New York Harlem Satellites (1970, 1971, 1974); Liga Interclub of St. Juan (1973, 1976-79); Chicago Heights, Ill. (1980, 1991); Ponce, Puerto Rico (1984, 1990, 2010); Fraigcomar, Puerto Rico (1989, 1993), Homewood (85, 2000) and the West Pullman Runners (88, 96).
- Three straight Bucaplaa-Fraigcomar title-game matchups (2006-08) was a first. Two different regions had met in five straight International title games prior to 2006. However, before that the International title has been decided within the same geographical region in nine of 10 years. The streak included: 1991— Chicago Heights over Highwood Small Fry; 1992— Newark over Riverside, N.Y.; 1993— Fraigcomar over Torrimar; 1995— Gary, Ind. over Highwood Small Fry; 1996— Chicago West Pullman Runners over Highwood Small Fry; 1997— Highwood Small Fry over Chicago Marquette Best. 1998— Highwood Small Fry over Chicago Heights. 1999— Highwood Small Fry over Chicago Washington Jaguars. 2000— Homewood over Chicago Washington Jaguars.
- Bucaplaa is the seventh team to play in at least four title games with eight, joining former co-leaders Racine and Highwood (seven each), Liga Interclub, Fraigcomar, Harlem Satellites, Chicago Heights (five each) and Homewood.
- Ponce (3-0) is one of five teams to be perfect in title games, including Liga Club (5-0), Aibonito (1-0), Arecibo (1-0) and Chicago And One (1-0).
- The Midwest or Chicago has been represented in the title game 23 of the last 33 years.
- Puerto Rican teams have a 20-8 record in championship games.
- The 42 previous champions have represented five different regions: Carribean (21), Midwest (12), East (5), Chicago (3) and West (1).
- Small Fry’s famous alumni include Nick Van Exel, Portland Blazers (Kenosha), Charley Scott, Boston Celtics (New York), Craig Hodges, Chicago Bulls World Champs (Chicago Heights); Mike Tomczak, Chicago Bears (Homewood); Butch Lee, Marquette 1977 National Champs (New York); Veltra Dawson, Villanova 1985 National Champs (Highwood); Will Bynum, Georgia Tech 2004 NCAA Runner Up (Chicago); and Donovan McNabb, Washington Redskins (Homewood). Last year’s Sweet 16 NCAA qualifier Cornell included Highwood alum Chris Wroblewski.

CHICAGO (4)
Chi-Town NBN: Making its third overall appearance, the Windy City regional champion hopes to improve on a 1-3 mark and eighth place finish in its 2008 debut.
Robert Taylor: The Panthers earned a bid for a third time, hoping to improve on a best of a 10th place finish in 2000.
Foster Pirates: In three overall appearance, the Pirates turned in their best finish last year with a fourth place.
Marquette Best: A visitor to the Final Four on six occasions, the Windy City squad returns for the 15th time overall. Marquette captured a second place in 1997 with a 48-41 title-game loss to the Highwood Heat and was second in 2010 with a 41-37 setback against Ponce.
EAST (2)
The NETWORK: A four-time qualifier, the East Coast champion will try to build on an eighth-place finish in 2009 and an all-time best sixth-place in its inaugural season in 2007.
Newark (N.J.) Project Pride: The Pride owns the longest string of International appearances at 27. Has won plenty of hardware, topping Riverside Church of New York, 59-48, for the 1992 title in New Orleans, taking second in 1995 at Tampa, third at Tampa in 1990, fourth in 2001, and the consolation crown at home in Newark in 1987 and 1996, as well as 1999 in Orlando.
MIDWEST (6)
Homewood: The Vikings have qualified in 15 of the last 16 years, including two title-game appearances in Orlando. Homewood won the 1985 International title in Racine (51-38 over Highwood) and the 2000 crown in Orlando (44-38 over Chicago Jaguars). The four-time unbeaten Midwest Champs have also finished second twice and made nine Final Fours since 1980.
Highwood Heat: Making its 18th appearance in 19 years, Highwood won its first International crown in 1997 in Tampa with a 48-41 decision over Marquette Best, then followed it up with a 58-35 title-game victory over Chicago Heights in 1998 at New Orleans and a 60-50 title-contest decision over the Washington Jaguars in 1999. The Heat has captured the runner-up spot at International four times— at Racine in 1985, Newark in 1991 and 1996, and Tampa in 1995. Won the Small Fry Friendship Tournament in 1989 and 1992 and is making its 39th International appearance.
Chicago Heights, Ill.: A five-time host of the International Tourney, the Green Streaks captured the 1980 title at home with a 51-46 victory over rival Homewood, then added the 1991 title at Newark with a 42-36 win over Highwood Small Fry. Also finished second in 1975, 1998 and 2009, and has qualified for a Midwest-best 22 straight International tourneys. Chicago Heights made three Final Fours in the 1990s and added a fourth-place finish in 2002.
Ford Heights: A long-time Small Fry participant makes its first-ever appearance in the International field.
Glenbrook: The Magic is making its 10th appearance overall after a third visit to the Final Four in 2007. The best showing came in 1999 with a third-place finish in the initial International Tournament in Orlando.
Kenosha, Wis.: A qualifier for the 11th time in 14 years, Kenosha is hoping to make the Final Four for first time since 2005. Kenosha has played in three title contests, falling to Liga Club in 1978 and 1979 and dropping a decision to Canovanas in 1983. Has advanced to the Final Four six times since 1980.
PUERTO RICO (12)
Torrimar: The runner-up finisher to Fraigcomar in 1993, Torrimar makes its 18th appearance overall and is seeking its fourth Final Four visit. Won the competitive Puerto Rico Qualifier with a 15-2 overall mark.
Bucaplaa A: Following up a 56-49 championship game loss to St. Rocco in 2003, Bucaplaa became the first team to win six straight titles with a 45-42 comeback victory over Homewood in 2004, a 49-33 win over the Rainbow Jaguars in 2005, three straight title-game wins over Fraigcomar (48-26 in 2006, 45-36 in 2007 and 77-62 in 2008) and 42-41 over Chicago Heights in 2009. It was Bucaplaa’s eighth title-game appearance, as it defeated Racine, 52-40, for the 1986 crown. A 19-time qualifier, Bucaplaa has made 11 Final Fours.
Ponce Constancia: A visitor to the field for the 11th time, Constancia captured the 2010 crown with a 41-37 decision over Marquette Best. Ponce has also won titles in 1984 and 1990.
Bayamon ABB: A seventh-time qualifier, fifth place in 2009 tops its International efforts.
Arecibo A: Has made six appearances overall, including a 46-45 win over St. Rocco for the 2001 title.
Naranjito: A visitor to the International field for the sixth time.
Juncos: Finished 16th in its lone appearance in 2008.
Guayama: Took a 16th place finish in its lone appearance in 2010.

Subject: 2011 Hotel, Car & Disney Ticket Info
Dear Teams,
We all must begin reserving our rooms and cars for the upcoming tournaments. Please read all material in this package carefully. Everything you will need is in this package for your teams and parents. All teams must be checked into the Disney All-Star Sport Hotel on Sunday, April 17. Please do not call the hotel directly because they will refer you back to me. Please be on time with all money and forms. This is very important to keep everything on time. If I do not receive your rooming list and money by the due date (March 12) you will have to find hotel rooms on your own and any games you play will be a forfeit. We are under a new contract with Disney and must follow some very tight guidelines.
Website: We will have updates on the 2011 Tournament on the web site (www.smallfrybasketball.com) for the teams & parents. We will also be updating the web site each day at the tournament. We hope to keep all the people who cannot make it to Florida up to date on all tournament play.
Hotel: Please fill out the hotel information sheet (on forms web page) completely. Each team will be allowed to book 6 rooms only.If you should need more than 6 rooms, you must book them through the hotel number below and put them on your credit card. There will be no exceptions.I will not accept any rooms for parents. We have a tax-free number for the teams only. If I find that any of the rooms are used by parents, I will see that the tax is added when you arrive. Please do not abuse a good thing. All rooms will be $104 per night per room. There is a maximum of only 4 people per room (Florida law). All rooming lists & money must be in by March 12.
Rental Cars:
You must make your own reservations for transportation, as we will not be getting any discounts this year. Reserve now! You may use Disney Transportation from the hotel to the Sports Complex. Please leave your team enough time if you choose this option. You may also use the buses for transportation to any of the parks. This will save on parking costs.
Tickets:
All teams must purchase 14 two-day park passes. You may offer these ticket prices to your parents. All tickets will be given to the teams and you will have to get them to your parents, so keep track of your parent ticket orders. Parents will not be able to get these ticket prices down in Florida. There are a few different kinds of tickets that are available so, please read the ticket sheet carefully. You must purchase a minimum of 14, two-day park passes. If you would like water park tickets they are available at a special price on the ticket sheet. All ticket money must be in by March 12.
Parents: Any parent wishing to reserve a room through the Small Fry Program may call Disney at 407-938-4868, choose option 1 and ask for Code G0568043. Parents will be able to stay in the Disney All-Star Sport Hotel with the teams. Parents wishing to purchase tickets for the Disney Parks must get them through the teams. I will not be handling any parent rooms, ticket or cars. Parents or anyone else wishing to watch the games will be able to purchase tickets into the Sports Complex for $43.50 for adult and $30.00 for children. This is a 4-day pass and may be purchased at the complex ticket window. Please give this information to all parents that are traveling.
Team Pictures: All teams must have a 4x6 team picture and a roster with team names and numbers typed. All pictures must be in by March 12. Please email photos in .jpg format with a minimum resolution of 200 to Rob Lueder at rgljr13@aol.com.
If necessary, original photos may be sent to Rob Lueder, 2631 Central Dr., Flossmoor, IL 60422. Any pictures after this date will not be in the tournament program. No exceptions.
Tournament Notes: All teams are asked again to have something to exchange for the opening of your first tournament game. The gift does not have to be expensive. All teams must be dressed in uniform for the championship game on April 21. All teams must be present at the International Tournament’s championship game. Please follow timeline for check - in. All teams must have 1 coach at all meetings in Florida. These meetings are very important. Please be on time.
Disney Waiver Forms : Please make copies of the wavier form and get them all to me by March 12. All players, coaches & team scorekeeper must have a form filled out and signed. No forms, no play.
Ads for Tournament Program: If any team knows any company that would be interested in advertising in the tournament program please let me know. Full page Ads will be $500; Back cover $1,500 or inside covers $1,000. This would be great exposure for any company.
